LAWRENCE, Massachusetts, July 18 -- Rep. Lori Trahan, D-Massachusetts, issued the following news release:
Today, Congresswoman Lori Trahan (D-MA-03) announced a grant totaling $472,944 for the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center, Inc. This award will support program T91, also known as Affordable Care Act Teaching Health Center; Graduate Medical Education. This award comes from the Department of Health and Human Services and is awarded by the Office of the Secretary.
"I am thrilled that the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center will receive this federal support. The benefit this organization brings to our community is immeasurable. As the first health center in the nation with an accredited graduate medical education program, the GLFHC provides high quality care and constant engagement with the community it serves. Indeed, Graduate Medical Education students assisted members of our community who were injured in last year's gas explosions. This program and its participants are deserving of this award and support. I will continue to advocate on behalf of these sorts of federal investments which mean so much to the greater Lawrence community and beyond," said Congresswoman Trahan.
"Greater Lawrence Family Health Center is thrilled to continue receiving this important funding for our Teaching Health Center residents in the nationally recognized Lawrence Family Residency program - the first health center owned and operated residency program of its kind in the nation. This funding we receive from HRSA each year is used to train our outstanding primary care residents and further meet the needs of supplying more outstanding clinicians to the primary care workforce nationwide," said John M. Silva, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center.
