Rep. Tonko Highlights Report Showing New Trumpcare Bill Rips $33 Billion From NY Health Care

ALBANY, N.Y., Sept. 19 -- Rep. Paul D. Tonko, D-N.Y., issued the following news release:

Capital Region Congressman Paul Tonko highlighted a new state-by-state report today showing Republicans' latest Trumpcare legislation, also called Graham-Cassidy, would rob an estimated $33,058,000,000 from New Yorkers' health care in 2027 alone. The Senate GOP is expected to rush the bill to a vote next week before the non-partisan CBO has time to score its full effects.

Rep. Paul Tonko: "Americans have consistently and overwhelmingly rejected the skyrocketing out-of-pocket costs and heartless gutting of coverage under Trumpcare. Now Republicans are at it again, this time pushing the most devastating version of Trumpcare we have seen yet. This time they propose to rip billions of dollars from funds that keep health care affordable for countless New York families. I stand on the side of our local communities, of seniors, women, people with pre-existing conditions and working families in this fight. I will do all I can to prevent the heavy cost increases and abject cruelty that would result from this misguided bill."

The Graham-Cassidy Trumpcare bill would have devastating consequences for America's working families including:

Higher Costs for Less Coverage - Trumpcare forces families to pay much higher out-of-pocket health care costs, including deductibles. Trumpcare will take away some or all health care from tens of millions of hard-working Americans.

Key Protections Gutted - Trumpcare would gut key protections for people with pre-existing conditions, destroy essential health benefits, and reinstate the dreaded lifetime and annual limits on care.

A Crushing Age Tax - Trumpcare exposes older Americans to higher premiums than what others pay for health coverage, no matter how healthy they are.

Stealing from Medicaid - Trumpcare ransacks funds that seniors depend on to get the long-term care they need, including nursing home care.

"Instead of working to give tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans and biggest corporations, I implore my Republican colleagues to abandon this failed and heartless repeal effort once and for all and instead join with me to advance productive, bipartisan action that will stabilize insurance marketplaces and drive down costs for working families in New York and across the country," Rep.
