Rep. Shea-Porter Issues Statement on House Vote to Repeal Affordable Care Act

WASHINGTON, May 4 -- Rep. Carol Shea-Porter, D-New Hampshire, issued the following statement:

On the one-year anniversary of House Republicans' vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act, which would have taken health care away from 23 million Americans, eliminated the health care rights of millions, and raised health care costs for every American.

"One year ago, House Republicans voted to take health care away from 23 million Americans. Their cruel bill threatened the health and economic security of millions by raising premiums by double-digits across the board.

"It would have jeopardized health care for women, allowed insurance companies to discriminate based on preexisting conditions, and instituted a $12,000 age tax on seniors. The House Republican bill would have crippled our state's effort to combat the deadly opioid crisis by blocking thousands of Granite Staters' access to treatment for substance use disorder through Medicaid.

"It has now been a full year. Congress should pass bipartisan legislation that will improve our health care markets, and I urge Congressional Republicans to bring a bill to the floor."
