Rep. Rosen: It’s Time to Move Forward, Work Together to Improve Health Care for Nevada Families

WASHINGTON, July 28 -- Rep. Jacky Rosen, D-Nev., issued the following statement on the failed Republican effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act in the Senate:

"Last night's defeat of yet another Republican health care repeal scheme in the Senate is a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience of the American people.

"Across the country and across my district, countless individuals called our offices, shared their stories and their fears, and helped prevent a disastrous bill that would have stripped health care away from more than 135,000 Nevadans. Today my thoughts are with constituents like Laura Packard, who's bravely fighting to beat stage 4 cancer and can continue to count on what's working in the Affordable Care Act.

"Now it's time to move forward. Republicans in Congress must start to reach across the aisle and work with Democrats on finding smart, viable solutions that address market instability, lower health care costs, improve quality of care, and expand coverage for our families."

BACKGROUND: Congresswoman Rosen is a co-sponsor of H.R.3258, the Marketplace Certainty Act, a bill that would immediately address market instability by controlling costs and keeping insurers from exiting the Silver State Exchange. The bill funds cost-sharing reductions provided by the Affordable Care Act, which would help drive down premiums costs to make insurance plans more affordable for consumers.

Congresswoman Rosen is also a co-sponsor of H.R. 635, the CHOICE Act, which directs the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to offer a nationwide public health insurance option that provides value, choice, competition, and the stability of affordable, high-quality coverage financed through premiums, rather than taxpayer dollars.
