WASHINGTON, Aug. 30 -- Rep. Collin C. Peterson, D-Minn., has introduced the Ensuring Lasting Smiles Act (H.R. 6689) to amend the Public Health Service Act, the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974, and the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 "to require that group and individual health insurance coverage and group health plans provide coverage for treatment of a congenital anomaly or birth defect."
The bill was introduced on Aug. 28 and was co-sponsored by Reps. David Young, R-Iowa, Kevin Yoder, R-Kan., James McGovern, D-Mass., and John J. Faso, R-N.Y. It was jointly referred to the House Energy and Commerce, Ways and Means and Education and the Workforce committees.
