Rep. Payne, Jr. Cosponsors Resolution of Inquiry to Push for Russia Investigation

WASHINGTON, March 30 -- Rep. Donald M. Payne Jr., D-N.J., issued the following news release:

Today, Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. (NJ-10), Ranking Member of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Communications, cosponsored a Resolution of Inquiry directing the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to provide the Committee on Homeland Security with all information it possesses pertaining to Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

The resolution was introduced by Congressman Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security.

"Russian meddling in the presidential election was a direct attack on our democracy, and it must be investigated in a thorough and impartial manner," said Congressman Payne, Jr. "By acting as President Trump's shield in the Russia investigation, Chairman Nunes has made it impossible for the House Intelligence Committee to do so under his leadership. It is time for our committee to step in and conduct a serious investigation."

Under the rules of the U.S. House of Representatives, the resolution can be called up in the House if the Committee on Homeland Security fails to act on the resolution within 14 legislative days.

Last week, Congressman Payne, Jr. called on Congressman Nunes to step down as House Intelligence Committee Chairman over his mishandling of the Russia investigation.
