WASHINGTON, Oct. 26 -- Rep. Tom O'Halleran, D-Ariz., issued the following statement after President Trump announced the opioid crisis is a public health emergency:
"The opioid epidemic has ravaged communities and taken our children, loved ones, and neighbors from us. If we are going to get serious about tackling the crisis and cutting the rates of drug abuse and overdose deaths, Republicans and Democrats must work together.
"While the President's acknowledgement of the problem is an important first step, this issue demands a declaration of national emergency.
"Congress must also step up and provide additional funds to states struggling with the rising cost of an epidemic that impacts the victims, their families, and our nation."
