WASHINGTON, Oct. 17 -- Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-California, issued the following news release on Oct. 16:
Today, President Trump committed to making a major disaster declaration as requested by the State of California on September 28th related to ongoing wildfires in California, including Los Angeles County, which Congressman Kevin McCarthy partially represents.
This announcement followed a conversation Congressman McCarthy had with the President where McCarthy urged him to approve this critical request and make the disaster declaration. The Congressman has been working diligently with Reps. Tom McClintock (CA-04), Mike Garcia (CA-25) and Doug LaMalfa (CA-01) on this issue, which follows an earlier decision to add Tulare County to the August 22nd Major Disaster Declaration at McCarthy and Rep. Devin Nunes' (CA-22) request.
McCarthy released the following statement:
"Californians have been devastated by this year's fires, and now, with President Trump's intention to declare a federal major disaster, he is helping to ensure that Californians receive the assistance they need to rebuild and repair.
"I thank President Trump for his swift action, and Representatives McClintock, Garcia, and LaMalfa for their dedication to ensuring that our State is fully supported."
