Rep. Hoyer Issues Statement on September Jobs Report

WASHINGTON, Oct. 5 -- House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, D-Maryland, issued the following statement on the Department of Labor after it released its jobs report for September:
"We should all be encouraged by today's report that our economy added 134,000 jobs in September. It is another sign of a sustained recovery that has added jobs every month for eight consecutive years. However, the American people understand that there remain problems hiding beneath these numbers. As wages continue to stagnate, the economic expansion of the last several years has still not been fully felt by workers.
"Rather than focus on helping all Americans get ahead, Republicans chose to gamble once again on trickle down economics with their tax scam, which added $1.8 trillion to the deficit while providing 83% of its tax breaks to the wealthiest 1%. Instead of working with Democrats to give workers secure access to quality, affordable health care, millions have lost coverage under Republican policies, and those with pre-existing conditions would be made uninsurable if they had their way.
"Look beyond the eye popping unemployment rate and it is easy to see that the policies of the Trump Administration and Congressional Republicans are making it harder for workers and entrepreneurs to make it in America.
"Democrats have a plan to change that and help our people get ahead. By investing in infrastructure to spur the growth of jobs that pay well, by helping build educational pathways into skilled careers, and by making it easier for innovators to launch new businesses here in America, we aim to put Congress back to work for those it serves."
