Rep. Green Issues Statement on Republicans’ Plan to Repeal, Replace Affordable Care Act

HOUSTON, March 6 -- Rep. Gene Green, D-Texas, issued the following statement on the Republicans' plan to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act:
"I am deeply disappointed that my colleagues are moving forward with their plan to undo the historic progress we've made in expanding health coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) by entirely repealing it and leaving many millions of Americans who gained coverage without a way to maintain it," said Green.
"Since the ACA, the quality of health care has improved for every hard working American, but under Republicans' repeal plan more Americans will be forced to pay more for less care. Medicaid expansion will be cut, families struggling to get ahead will receive less financial assistance, and the clock will severely roll back to a time when millions of Americans didn't have health insurance before the ACA was law."
"The bill that was introduced this evening was secretly drafted and introduced less than two days before the committee markup. Americans deserve better. When the House Democrats held the majority in 2009, former Congressman Henry Waxman, Chair of the Energy & Commerce committee during the ACA debates, was transparent with the American people and held multiple hearings. Republicans should follow precedent and hold a 30-day public comment period instead of sitting on their hands.
"The Energy and Commerce Committee has scheduled a markup of this legislation on Wednesday, March 8, at 10:30 a.m., in room 2123 of Rayburn House Office Building."
