Rep. Garcia Issues Statement on Supreme Court Ruling on Affordable Care Act Contraceptive Coverage Case

HOUSTON, Texas, July 9 -- Rep. Sylvia Garcia, D-Texas, issued the following statement on July 8:
Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) issued a statement in response to today's Supreme Court's ruling, which will weaken the Affordable Care Act's contraceptive-coverage requirement by allowing private employers to choose whether or not they will provide contraceptive coverage for their employees.

"Today, the Supreme Court has permitted the Trump Administration's continued assault on the health and financial security of women all across America. This decision will only force women workers to make difficult decisions when it comes to contraceptive coverage."
"This decision is even more troubling when considering we are still in the midst of a pandemic that has killed more than 130,000 Americans.
"At this very moment, our country should be focused on expanding access to health care, which should include full reproductive health care coverage."
"Today, women across America were failed by the Supreme Court. This is why I will continue to fight alongside my House Democratic colleagues. We must ensure we protect the Affordable Care Act and expand access to reproductive health care, which must include contraceptive coverage."
