WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06) issued the following statement after Covered California announced that Executive Director Peter Lee would leave the organization in early 2022.
"Peter Lee brought visionary leadership to Covered California, and his immense dedication to building and operating a robust health insurance marketplace continues to serve millions of Californians with affordable, high-quality coverage options," said Congresswoman Matsui. "In working together to craft the Affordable Care Act, Peter provided invaluable counsel on the need to ensure all health care stakeholders in Sacramento had a seat at the table, and his crucial insight and advocacy for expanding care helped California pave the way in health insurance reform and serve as a model for the rest of the country. Under Peter's leadership, Covered California maximized the tools provided by the ACA to lower premiums and other out-of-pocket costs, making quality health care coverage more affordable than ever. His work has truly been lifesaving, and I wish him every success in his next endeavors."
For the past decade, Peter Lee has served on the frontlines of implementing the Affordable Care Act in California. As the first and only Executive Director for California's state-based marketplace for the individual and small group market, Covered California, Peter has been an outstanding visionary working to ensure that health care better meets the needs of California's consumers.
