Rep. DelBene Issues Statement on President Trump’s Budget

WASHINGTON, May 23 -- Rep. Suzan DelBene, D-Wash., issued the following statement after President Trump outlined his budget priorities:
"Trump's budget jeopardizes the middle class by gutting funding for basic necessities like healthcare, nutrition, housing and education," DelBene said. "This budget is an enormous setback in nearly every area affecting American families, particularly children, seniors and people with disabilities. It would have a negative impact on critical research, healthcare, job training, our environment, affordable housing programs and education, just to name a few. Rather than gouging programs the middle class relies on to give the wealthiest a tax cut, we should be working on a bipartisan budget that provides working families certainty and stability through strategic investments. This budget is as irresponsible as it is dangerous."
The President's budget would cut funding for programs like Medicaid, Meals on Wheels, Head Start, Special Olympics, Pell Grants, National Institutes of Health and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (SNAP). It would also cut Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), which people with disabilities rely on to make ends meet.
DelBene serves on the House Budget Committee, which has jurisdiction over these issues. Tomorrow, DelBene will question Director of the Office of Management and Budget Mick Mulvaney about the harm Trump's budget would have on middle-class families.
