WASHINGTON, June 3 -- Rep. Sharice Davids, D-Kansas, issued the following statement after the House passed the Senate Amendment to the Additional Supplemental Appropriations for Disaster Relief Act (H.R. 2157):
"I'm pleased that the House finally passed a bipartisan disaster relief package to provide urgently-needed support for communities impacted by floods, hurricanes, wildfires and other natural disasters. As we saw in Kansas just last week, natural disasters can strike without warning and with devastating effect.
"This bill provides funding for many essential programs Kansans effected by disaster might take advantage of, like the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Federal Highway Administration emergency relief, Federal Transit Administration emergency relief, General Services Administration and agricultural programs.
"It also extends the National Flood Insurance Program, which helps families prepare for and rebuild after floods.
"Helping our families and communities recover from natural disasters should never be a partisan issue, and I'm glad we were able to pass this disaster aid package."
