WASHINGTON, Jan. 16 -- Rep. David N. Cicilline, D-Rhode Island, co-chair of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee, issued the following statement after it was revealed that the number of Americans without health insurance increased by 3.2 million:
"It's now unmistakably clear that Republican policies are hurting working people. President Trump's first year in office marked the largest single-year increase in the uninsured rate since the Affordable Care Act became law. Millions of hardworking Americans are now going without health insurance, and thousands of these folks are going to die each year because they won't be able to afford critical health care.
"We already know that the tax scam Republicans passed last month will further unravel the Affordable Care Act. This is not what working people signed up for under President Trump.
"They deserve a better deal with access to affordable health care, good-paying jobs, and the opportunity not just to get by, but to get ahead."
