WASHINGTON, Feb. 4 -- Rep. Michael Burgess, R-Texas, issued the following news release:
Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX) released the following statement after reintroducing H.R. 689 the Premium Relief Act of 2021.
"The government response to addressing any health care issues facing the country should always focus on the patient and affordable, accessible care. This legislation will provide states the freedom to repair their markets that have been damaged by Obamacare by establishing a Patient and State Stability Fund. States can choose to utilize these dollars to lower health insurance premiums and support programs to increase access to preventive health services, maternity care, substance use disorder and mental health treatment, and much more.
This legislation is fully paid for by stopping bad actors from gaming the system, making this a fiscally responsible policy. Before coming to Congress, I practiced medicine for nearly 30 years. I know and understand the daily struggles doctors and patients face, which is why I introduced this legislation. I urge fellow Members to join me in supporting and quickly passing this bill," said Burgess.
