BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) _ ProAssurance Corp. (PRA) on Thursday reported a fourth-quarter loss of $24.5 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.
The Birmingham, Alabama-based company said it had a loss of 46 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for investment costs, were 18 cents per share.
The medical professional liability insurer posted revenue of $179.5 million in the period. Its adjusted revenue was $228.9 million, which fell short of Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $230.7 million.
For the year, the company reported profit of $47.1 million, or 88 cents per share. Revenue was reported as $920.6 million.
ProAssurance shares have climbed 11 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $44.85, a decrease of 14 percent in the last 12 months.
