Price Nomination Confirms House GOP & Trump Teaming Up to Hurt Middle Class

WASHINGTON, Nov. 29 -- The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee issued the following news release:

Throughout the campaign, Speaker Paul Ryan and House Republicans made clear that they value the Republican Party over the country by falling in line with Donald Trump. To avoid answering for Trump's reckless rhetoric and behavior, time and again Ryan waved his notorious "Better Way" policy pamphlet. True to form, now that he and House Republicans have helped elect Trump, they're conveniently bypassing the near-constant troubling reports and tweets from the Trump Transition in favor of linking arms with Trump to push an agenda that will hurt middle class families.

Case in point: Trump's selection of Congressman Tom Price -heir to Paul Ryan's notorious budget scheme to end Medicare's guarantee and risk seniors' health care on the private insurance market - to serve in his Cabinet, and the ensuing celebration from Ryan and his colleagues.

"Speaker Ryan's silence while President-Elect Trump has failed to come clean about conflicts of interest with his businesses, fanned dangerous white nationalist flames, and engaged in wholly un-presidential behavior since the election has been deafening," said Christie Stephenson of the DCCC. "Meanwhile, Ryan instantly fawned over the Cabinet nomination of one of his top henchmen, Tom Price, who has been on the front lines with Ryan in fighting to enact the Republican Party's dangerous scheme to end the Medicare guarantee. It's clear that House Republicans are dedicated to enacting their dangerous agenda that hurts middle class families and seniors while at the same time allowing Donald Trump to use the White House to enrich himself at taxpayers' expense."
