President Donald J. Trump Approves Major Disaster Declaration for Mississippi

WASHINGTON, Dec. 10 -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security'sFederal Emergency Management Agency issued the following news release:
FEMA announced that federal disaster assistance has been made available to the state of Mississippi to supplement state, tribal and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by severe storms, straight-line winds and flooding on Oct. 26, 2019.
The President's action makes federal funding available to the state, tribal, eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair and replacement of facilities damaged by severe storms, straight-line winds and flooding in Alcorn, Covington, Itawamba, Jasper, Jefferson Davis, Leake, Lee, Marion, Neshoba, Newton, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Scott, Simpson, Smith, and Tippah counties.
Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures for statewide.
Jose M. Girot has been named as the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected area. Girot said additional designations may be made at a later date if warranted by the results of further damage assessments.
