Police: Man accused of hitting woman with truck, fleeing scene

Austin American-Statesman (TX)

March 04-- Mar. 4--A Cedar Park man has been accused of striking a woman with a pickup last year, briefly checking on her and then fleeing the scene, according to an arrest affidavit released in late February.

Jared Patrick Shifler, 33, was charged with accident involving personal injury.

Four witnesses told police that the woman was walking through the parking lot at 1851 S. Lakeline Blvd. on June 25, 2018, when she was struck by a Ford F-150 pickup that knocked her to the ground, the affidavit said.

According to police, the driver of the truck, who was later identified as Jared Patrick Shifler, briefly stopped and checked on the woman as she lay on the ground. He then drove away in his truck without identifying himself, providing insurance information or waiting for police and paramedics to arrive.

Police, who had been alerted to truck's license plate number by witnesses, stopped Shifler in the 1800 block of Iris Lane, the affidavit stated. Shifler told police he was driving the truck when he collided with the woman, but said he left after stopping briefly because he was scared due to witnesses yelling at him.

The injured woman was taken to St. David's Round Rock Medical Center, where she was treated for a head injury and an abrasion to her right leg, according to the affidavit. Her medical records showed she lost consciousness when she was struck by the truck, the affidavit stated.

Shifler was released from the Williamson County Jail on Feb. 22 after posting bail set at $15,000.
