Pelosi Statement on the 8th Anniversary of the Affordable Care Act
Washington, D.C. - Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement marking the eighth anniversary of the date President Barack Obama signed the Affordable Care Act into law:
"Eight years ago, with the signing of the Affordable Care Act, America added a new pillar of health and economic security to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. The ACA has delivered historic progress expanding coverage, lowering costs and improving benefits for every American - no matter where they get health coverage.
"Yet from day one of the Trump Administration, Republicans have tried to rip away those protections, raise families' health costs, and steal the health coverage of tens of millions of Americans. Even after families across America rose up to defeat the monstrosity of Trumpcare, the GOP is still spitefully trying to sabotage Americans' health care. Republicans are raising premiums, enabling junk coverage and trying to eviscerate Medicare and Medicaid to pay for the $2 trillion added to the debt by the GOP tax scam's giveaways to the wealthy.
"Americans are getting a raw deal from a GOP Congress and Administration obsessed with raising their costs and attacking their health care. Democrats are offering A Better Deal, and we will continue to call for A Better Deal to Lower the Cost of Prescription Drugs - confronting the single largest factor driving health cost increases in America. We will continue to fight to protect and improve Americans' health care."
