Pelosi Statement on Administration Announcement of Medicaid Work Requirements
Washington, D.C. - Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement after the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced they would approve state Medicaid waivers that would impose work requirements on Medicaid:
"Today's announcement is a shameful violation of the letter and spirit of Medicaid. The vast majority of Americans who rely on Medicaid are already working hard to support their families. This mean-spirited decision will have a particularly damaging impact on women, including women currently taking care of seriously ill family members and those who have chronic health conditions of their own.
"The Trump Administration and the Republican Congress have spent a full year engaged in spiteful sabotage of affordable, quality health care for the American people. Today's decision, together with Republican Congress' cynical plans to gut Medicare and Medicaid to pay for massive tax cuts for the rich and for corporations, compounds the crisis for vulnerable Americans. Republicans must stop the sabotage, and focus on delivering affordable, quality health care to the American people."
