Over 10,000 Hoosiers Covered with INFB Health Plans

INFORMATION PROVIDEDThe News-Examiner

Indiana Farm Bureau Health Plans announced it has more than 4,850 enrolled plans at the end of the third quarter, providing health coverage to more than 10,000 Hoosiers.

"INFB Health Plans were created four years ago to address a significant need – providing our members with more affordable, reliable health care," said INFB President Randy Kron. "Hitting this momentous milestone of 10,000 lives covered showcases that INFB is achieving our goal."

As of Sept. 30, 2024, enrollment in INFB Health Plans totaled 4,851 active plans. The breakdown of coverage for those plan holders included:

3,752 Traditional Health Plans (both individual and family plans);

768 dental and vision plans; and

331 Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans.

The fourth quarter of each year is open enrollment time for most employers and Affordable Care Act plans. Existing INFB members may apply for and receive coverage through INFB Health Plans anytime during the year, but Q4 is a good time for them to assess their health care options. On average, a plan offered through INFB Health Plans can provide savings of 25 percent to 50 percent for families when compared to ACA plans that aren't subsidized by the federal government.

"As individuals and families evaluate their health benefits during this time, it's important to understand plan offerings and any changes being made that could have an impact on their care," said Steve Allen, INFB Health Plans manager. "INFB Health Plans are an affordable option for those who are interested in reviewing their health care options for themselves and their dependents."

Kelli Chalfant farms with her family in Randolph County. They grow corn, wheat, soybeans, oats, and raise pigs. They have also had INFB Health Plans since the health care offering took effect in January 2021. Right away they noticed that the savings was substantial.

"We previously had coverage through the private sector and the cost was outrageous," Chalfant explained. "We are saving $700 to $800 a month with INFB Health Plans."

Chalfant was also pleased with the expansive coverage, including dental and vision plans the family didn't have before, as well as the number of options for providers under the extensive UnitedHealth Care Choice Plus network in the rural community where they live.

"I would recommend INFB Health Plans to anyone who is self-employed or needs better health care options," Chalfant noted. "It gives you the peace of mind knowing that you can get really good health care for your family while saving money each month."

Existing INFB members may apply for INFB Health Plans at any time, however, membership is required prior to applying for coverage, and individuals must be a member of INFB for at least 30 days to apply for a Traditional Health Plan or a dental/vision plan. Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans do not require the 30-day waiting period. Coverage is statewide and plans are portable anywhere a member may live in Indiana, with no defined service area.
