OPINION: Sound Offs for July 23, 2020

Sun Herald (Biloxi, MS)

Jul. 23--God bless

If a school death is a result of COVID-19, the governor, school superintendent, and school board should be required to attend the funeral. Oh wait, we can't have funerals because the size of the gathering would be too large. Class sizes of 30 or more are safe, but funerals are not. God bless Mississippi.

Read it

A Sound Off writer claimed that Richard Harkness' recent letter to the editor compared Trump supporters to ape-like hominids. That is an easily provable lie. Read the letter for yourself at the Sun Herald's Web site. It is titled "Movie parallels" dated July 6.

The latest?

After Tropical Storm Christabol in June, reporter Anita Lee had an interesting article in the paper about the Silver Slipper. The question was would the casino change their emergency plans after the catastrophic flooding. She had reached out to the manager, but he did not respond. Has there been any update? Just wondering with the tropics heating up.

Bringing it home

Day care centers house small numbers of babies and toddlers, who have amazing immune systems, to protect them. Schools with children 6 to 14 years old have larger numbers: 400 to 600 students and more teachers and staff. Children this age are carriers -- and can carry it home.

A prediction

If the Democrat run states keep allowing protests and riots to go on, Trump and his followers will thank you for the win.

Only fair

To be fair and objective, national media at every level needs to dissect, fact check and aggressively question presidential candidate Joe Biden about his entire political past, his finances, his policy proposals, his vision, his health and so on. Exactly the same as they do with President Trump with the same venomous, angry, hateful posture in their interviews and questions. Look for it. So far they are just messaging outlets.

Just saying

I don't always agree, but most of the Sound Off posts hive reasonable opinions that have been thought out. However, there is this one writer who consistently writes nonsense that nobody with a brain would agree with. I wonder if this is intentional.

COVID testing

If NFL players can be tested everyday, why can't teachers? Wait, players make money for their owners and teachers only teach our kids. No money to be made there.
