National Center for Law and Economic Justice Signs on to Amicus Brief in Pennsylvania V. Trump

NEW YORK, April 18 -- The National Center for Law and Economic Justice issued the following news:

This week, NCLEJ joined with 50 other organizations committed to fair access to essential health care in signing on to an amicus brief submitted to the Supreme Court in Pennsylvania v. Trump. The brief was submitted by our partners at the National Women's Law Center, the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice, SisterLove, Inc, and the National Asian Pacific American Women's Forum.

In Pennsylvania v. Trump, the Supreme Court will consider whether to allow the Trump administration to institute new rules that would allow employers to deprive workers of access to contraception services required by the Affordable Care Act. If permitted to take effect, the Trump administration's rules will endanger the health and autonomy of around 100,000 workers, based on the administration's own estimates. Many of these workers are employed in low wage industries, such as retail. The rules would impose a particularly significant burden on Black and Latinix workers, since they are disproportionately employed in low wage jobs, and are less likely to be able to afford the contraception of their choice out of pocket.
