NASHCO Names Kelly Crowe as New CEO

By a News Reporter-Staff News Editor at Managed Care Weekly Digest -- The National Alliance of State Health CO-OPs (NASHCO) recently named Kelly Crowe as its permanent CEO. Her appointment was approved unanimously by NASHCO's Board of Directors. Crowe had served in an interim capacity as Executive Director and CEO since December. Previously, Crowe was a Vice President at Leavitt Partners, and has also worked at the Center for Health Transformation and the Advisory Board Company. She also spent 14 years in the investment banking field as an equity analyst.

"In her over six months as CEO in an interim capacity, Kelly has shown she is more than capable of handling the job on a permanent basis," said Dr. Martin Hickey, Chairman of NASHCO's Board of Directors. "It's safe to say that all CO-OPs have benefited greatly from her leadership and vision, and the organization as a whole finds itself on solid ground as a result of her work. She has certainly earned this position, and we look forward to working with her over the coming weeks and years as CO-OPs continue to deliver affordable and high quality health care options in states across the country."

Since Crowe has served as interim Executive Director and CEO, NASHCO has announced that its members enrolled one million members (as of March), and continued to lead the way for both competition and innovation in the health insurance marketplaces. Organizationally, NASHCO has expanded its preferred vendor program, which currently has nine companies across a variety of categories (see also Health Insurance).

Crowe has BBA from the University of Mississippi and Masters in Economics from the University of Memphis. She also serves as Chair of the Board of Directors for the Association of the Preservation of Historic Congressional Cemetery, based on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC.

Based in Washington, DC, the National Alliance of State Health CO-OPs is the trade association for non-profit health insurance CO-OPs. NASHCO was formed after the passage of the Affordable Care Act, and was designed to promote the development and success of health insurance CO-OPs. All 22 health insurance CO-OPs are members of NASHCO. In the last four years, NASHCO has hosted multiple conferences to bring together those interested in the innovations and member governance models of CO-OPs, including health care policy experts, administration officials and congressional staff, health care industry professionals, and employer groups and consumer advocates.
