Midlothian Council to consider engineering contract for fire training facility

Waxahachie Daily Light, The (TX)

Feb. 12--MIDLOTHIAN

An engineering services agreement for the new Midlothian Fire Department's training facility will be considered by the city council at its Tuesday night meeting.

The proposed $60,000 contract is with Freeze and Nichols.

Funding for the new training facility along with a new fire station was a part of three propositions passed by Midlothian voters in November 2017. The bond funding the two projects totaled around $9 million.

"We have never had a training facility for the fire department here. All of the firefighters have to go outside the community to get that training, Midlothian City Manager Chris Dick previously said. "So we would like to bring that training in town."

Midlothian Fire Chief Dale McCaskill previously stated the city does not currently have a training facility. The department has to rely on other cities, such as Waxahachie. The department has also used the parking lot at the Midlothian ISD Multi-Purpose Stadium as well as homes donated by residents for training.

According to the Freese and Nichols website, the company provides a broad range of services to plan, design, and manage public infrastructure projects. They aid clients through every stage of the project that includes planning, design, program management, funding procurement, regulatory compliance, construction management and operations, and maintenance.

Some of the company's clients include the City of Fort Worth, City of Houston, City of Waco, City of Port Arthur, City of San Antonio, and DFW International Airport.
