MID Helping Consumers at FEMA Disaster Recovery Center

JACKSON, Miss., Jan. 30 -- The Mississippi Department of Insurance issued the following news release:
The Mississippi Insurance Department Disaster Claims Assistance site in Petal is now relocated and has become a part of the FEMA Disaster Recovery Center in Hattiesburg, MS. Representatives from the Consumer Services Division of the MID will be working with other state and federal agencies at the DRC in Forrest County located at the C. E. Roy Community Center - 300 E. 5th Street, Hattiesburg, MS, to help consumers affected by the recent Pine Belt tornadoes.
"By coordinating recovery efforts the MID can be on site to assist individuals with insurance who may be having a problem with their insurance company or who may seek further explanation of their coverage," Commissioner of Insurance Mike Chaney said.
Additional Disaster Recovery Centers are open at the following locations:
* Petal Civic Center - 712A South Main Street, Petal, MS
* Lamar County- Lamar County Safe Room - 99 Central Industrial Row, Purvis, MS
These DRC's are established for those who do not have insurance and are seeking FEMA disaster assistance. If an individual needs assistance and cannot get to the DRC's they may apply for assistance at www.disasterassistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) and the speech or hearing impaired may call (TTY) 1- 800-462-7585.
