McSally Standing By GOP Suit to End Coverage Protections

PHOENIX, Arizona, Nov. 19 -- The Arizona Democratic Party issued the following news release:

In a recent interview, Martha McSally claimed, "We are never going back -- ever" to letting insurance companies deny coverage to people with a pre-existing condition -- but that's exactly what would happen if the McSally-enabled, Republican health care lawsuit is successful.

MCSALLY CLAIM: "We are never going back -- ever -- to [...] where insurance companies could deny people with pre-existing conditions."

THE TRUTH: McSally's Republican allies are currently engaged in a McSally-enabled lawsuit to end pre-existing condition coverage protections.

In December 2017, McSally voted to pave the way for Attorney General Mark Brnovich and national Republicans' lawsuit to strike down pre-existing condition coverage protections as unconstitutional.

Since then, McSally has repeatedly refused to oppose the lawsuit, instead insisting that it isn't her "role" to stand up for Arizonans' health care.

Here are three times McSally refused to stand up for Arizonans and oppose the GOP lawsuit:

KPNX-TV: Do you support the Trump administration's support -- they're asking a federal judge to throw out the Affordable Care Act, and declare it unconstitutional -- do you support that?

MCSALLY: Again, it's not my role...

KPNX-TV: Health care, obviously, it's going to be a big issue in 2020. Do you support the Trump administration's decision to back that lawsuit that would repeal the Affordable Care Act? The GOP says they're going to wait until 2020 to deal with this, but do you support that decision to back the lawsuit?

MCSALLY: Look, that's their decision...

"I'll tell you what I support." Earlier this month, McSally avoided a direct constituent question on the lawsuit, flat-out refusing to answer their "yes or no" question, during a telephone town hall:

CONSTITUENT: My question for you is do you support the lawsuit to end Obamacare? Just yes, or no?

MCSALLY: I'll tell you what I support. I support making sure that everybody who has a pre-existing condition can get access to health insurance and they are not denied by insurance companies.
