McSally Silent on Renewed GOP Call For Medicare, Social Security Cuts

- McSally has backed raising the Social Security retirement age and shifting to Medicare vouchers that the Congressional Budget Office said would cause most beneficiaries to "pay more than under current law."

Does Martha McSally back Donald Trump's push for Medicare and Social Security cuts? Arizonans deserve to know, after Trump yesterday joined Republican U.S. Senators' recent calls for potential cuts to Social Security and Medicare.

McSally's record leaves little doubt she'd support Republicans' push for earned benefit cuts:

* Republicans have looked to target earned Medicare, AHCCCS, and Social Security for deep cuts since passing the McSally-backed 2017 tax law, which was a trillion-dollar giveaway to McSally and Republicans' corporate interest backers that is leaving working families behind.

* Trump tweeted that Martha McSally is "fully supportive of our agenda" in July 2019.

* And -- even more notably -- McSally has over the years herself backed significant changes and cuts to Arizonans' earned benefits programs, including by:

* Backing an increase to the Social Security retirement age;

* Supporting Paul Ryan's plans to "end traditional Medicare"; and

* Supporting a scheme to voucherize Medicare that the AARP said "shifts costs" onto seniors, and which would cause most beneficiaries to "pay more than under current law."

Arizonans know that Martha McSally can't be trusted to protect Medicare and Social Security, because she's backed cuts and changes to those programs previously, proving that she'll always side with her party leaders and corporate interest backers over Arizonans.
