There are currently around 235 Fire Cadets based in 15 units in the capital, with seven more due to open this month. This additional funding will provide opportunities for up to 300 more places each year for 11-17 year olds in every part of
Fire Cadets take part in a range of activities such as fire safety, basic first aid and firefighting skills, a programme aimed at improving their confidence, wellbeing, communication and employability skills. Each cadet also has the opportunity to obtain formal qualifications for completing the programme.
Since the cadet programme started in 2013, 750 young people have graduated from the scheme, including 50 who have gone on work as firefighters, control staff and inspection officers in the
