Loyola University Maryland in Baltimore has announced a $10 million commitment from alumnus H. Edward Hanway ('74) and his wife, Ellen, in support of its nursing and risk management programs.
The award from the former CEO of Cigna, the health insurance company, will fund expansion of the school's Donnelly Science Center, which houses Loyola's newly launched nursing program, and create the Loyola Nursing Leadership Scholars program. In addition, the funding will establish the Hanway Endowed Professorship in Risk Management and the Hanway Risk Management Experiential Learning Fund.
"I spent a significant part of my career in the health insurance business, and so I have a good appreciation for the shortage of nursing resources that we have in this country," said Hanway. "I'm very proud that Loyola decided to address that and expand its offerings to include nursing in a way that is reflective of the university's mission...of care for others and care for the City of Baltimore."
