Deadline today for Chamber annual award nominations

Today is the last day officials with the Knox County Chamber of Commerce will accept nominations for the organization's annual awards ceremony.

The chamber will host its 107th Annual Awards Dinner on May 4 at the Highland Woods Community Center.

The Chamber invited people to nominate an individual, organization or business that they feel best exemplifies" the organization's many categories of recognition," which are Small Business of the Year, Large Business of the Year, Nonprofit of the Year, Educator of the Year, the C. James McCormick Community Leader of the Year, Public Servant of the Year and Business Woman of the Year.

Anyone can complete a nomination form, officials say, but nominees for the Small and Large Business of the Year awards must be Chamber members.

Award sponsors include First Vincennes Savings Bank, Valley Party, Burkhart Insurance Agency, Liberty Federal Credit Union, and The McCormick Family.

Good Samaritan to update visitor guidelines again

Good Samaritan will update inpatient visitor hours, effective April 3.

Good Samaritan inpatient visitor hours will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. All visitors will still be required to use the contactless sign-in kiosks at the Health Pavilion, Gibault Memorial, Same Day Surgery (2nd Floor), Cancer Pavilion and Emergency Room entrances.

Visitors are able to enter through the Health Pavilion doors 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Outside of those hours, visitors must enter through the Emergency Department doors as the Health Pavilion doors will be locked.

Food Trucks on the Wabash to return next month

Officials with Food Trucks on the Wabash say the popular Monday night tradition will return on April 17.

The trucks will once again be parked along the city's Riverwalk from 5-8 p.m. Performing for opening night will be Just 1 More.

Carry out is always available, but there are picnic tables placed along the Riverwalk for those who want to stay and enjoy their food outdoors.

Food Trucks on the Wabash will then continue every Monday from 5-8 p.m. through August.

Freelandville School Reunion set for May

A Freelandville School Reunion will be held May 14 at the Community Center. Registration and social hour will begin at 5 p.m., followed by a dinner catered by Carla's Catering at 6 p.m.

A short business and recognition of 2023 seniors and special recognition of classes 1963, 1973 and 1998 will follow.

This event is open to graduates and anyone who ever attended Freelandville School.

The Freelandville Museum will also be open at 1 p.m. and is located on the north side of the pavilion.

Cost for the dinner is $20 per person. Reservations are needed by May 5.

County Democratic Party looking to fill township board seat

The Knox County Democratic Party is accepting applications for a vacant seat on the Johnson Township Advisory Board, officials announced last week.

The Democrat elected for the position in November of 2022 "has been unable to take their oath of office, necessitating this action," according to a release issued by the party.

Interested persons must be a registered voter and live in Johnson Township.

Any voter who meets the qualifications and would like an opportunity to serve on the board, which acts as the fiduciary body of the township, should send a letter of interest to KCDems Chair Marsha Fleming at [email protected] no later than Tuesday.

Common Grounds discussion to focus on housing insecurity

The next installment of the the Pantheon's Common Grounds community discussions will be held on Wednesday.

This one will feature McKenzie Young with Children and Family Services and will focus on the topics of housing development, insecurities, rental assistant

The discussion will take place at 8 a.m. at the Pantheon, 428 Main St.
