The following information was released by California State Senate Minority Leader Brian W. Jones:
New rules give homeowners right to access CA FAIR Plan coverage
Today,Senate Minority Leader Brian W. Jones (R-San Diego) announced his legislation to protect mobile homeowners in case of disaster Senate Bill 525 was signed into law.
The ne law, a product of years of negotiations on the part of Jones, will afford manufactured and mobile homeowners the ability to acquire full replacement cost insurance policies.
"Today is a great day to be a mobile homeowner," said Jones. "For too long they've been treated like second class citizens when it comes to protecting their property."
Currently, finding full replacement cost insurance coverage for mobile or manufactured homes in California is next to impossible. For standard foundation homes, those who cannot find a private insurance policy are able to avail themselves of California's insurer of last resort, the California FAIR Plan Association. However, for mobile homeowners, even the FAIR plan will not insure them. Today's bill signing will finally change that fact.
"This bill being signed is a victory for equity in California's insurance market," said Jones. "I'm proud of the work we did to get to where we are and of my mobile homeowner constituents for bringing this issue forward and persevering alongside me through years of negotiations."
There are over 500,000 mobile homes in California that will be affected by the new law and will, for the first time, have the option of procuring full replacement cost insurance policies.
Senate Bill 525 will now be chaptered into law and will take effect on January 1, 2026.
