WASHINGTON, DC--House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement applauding the upcoming House vote on the ALS Disability Insurance Access Act of 2019:
"I am heartened by Leader Hoyer's announcement that next week the House will vote on the ALS Disability Insurance Access Act of 2019. With no cure, people with ALS and their families face unspeakable challenges in accessing and affording care. Like many Americans, I've seen loved ones suffer the devastating effects of this disease, and I am glad that this bill led by Massachusetts Congressman Seth Moulton will move forward.
"This legislation takes a vital step in providing relief from the five-month waiting period for Social Security Disability Insurance so that people with ALS can access their Social Security and Medicare benefits without any harmful delays. I look forward to strong bipartisan support for finally giving people grappling with this disease quicker access to the benefits they have earned, and hope that we can extend similar relief to others in the 117th Congress."
