The Safe Shelter Inc., is seeking volunteers for its homes for persons seeking protection from abusive homes, the organization announced. The nonprofit agency has set a schedule of required training sessions.

35 years ago – 1987

The Benton Harbor School Board voted 6-1 to participate in a self-insurance pool with about 20 Michigan school districts. The self-insurance pool, Middle Cities Risk Management Trust, involves urban school districts which are members of the Middle Cities Education Association.

50 years ago – 1972

Fairplain followed the bouncing ball and sang itself a winning tune at Dickinson Field on Friday. A wild pitch caromed off the backstop and into the St. Joseph dugout produced the tying and winning runs for Fairplain in a 4-2 win in a West division game of the Southwest Connie Mack League.
