Jackson Charitable Foundation Donates Personal Finance Curriculum to 250 High Schools Across the Country this Fall

Journal of Mathematics

By a News Reporter-Staff News Editor at Journal of Mathematics -- Jackson Charitable Foundation, the charitable-giving arm of Jackson National Life Insurance Company® (Jackson®), announced a $500,000 contribution to Ramsey Education to sponsor their Foundations in Personal Finance curriculum in 250 high schools across the country this school year. The Foundation, which has a mission to advance financial knowledge on a national scale, has teamed up with Ramsey Education to ensure more than 20,000 high school students have access to this critical, financial education program that teaches valuable skills to prepare them for a life of financial freedom.

"We're thrilled to work with Ramsey Education and support educators across the country as they get this important financial literacy program into the hands of thousands more high-school students who might not otherwise hear these valuable lessons," said Danielle Robinson, executive director, Jackson Charitable Foundation. "Our dream is for teens to develop strong personal finance skills that allow them to understand the choices we all have with money and set themselves on a path for success after they leave school."

The new partnership with Ramsey Education adds to the growing number of financial literacy programs the Foundation already supports across the country. The Foundation's signature program, Cha-ChingTM Money Smart Kids, is brought to more than 1.5 million elementary school students annually through partnerships with Junior Achievement USA and Discovery Education. Cha-Ching teaches basic money concepts to kids through a series of three-minute music videos, classroom lessons and family activities that show students how to Earn, Save, Spend & Donate.

Personal finance expert Dave Ramsey began Ramsey Education to address a concern he heard regularly when counseling adults on money issues, "I wish I had learned this in high school!" Thus, the creation of Foundations in Personal Finance, an easy-to-use, turn-key school curriculum that teaches students the value of saving, spending and giving to guide them down the path of financial literacy.

"It's critical that young people everywhere, regardless of economic circumstance, learn sound, financial principles and make them part of their behavior and daily decision-making," said Jim King, senior vice president of Ramsey Education. "It was clear to us right away that the Jackson Charitable Foundation considers it a privilege to support and strengthen those efforts."

More than three million students have benefited from Foundations in Personal Finance in middle schools, high schools and universities nationwide. Foundations in Personal Finance can be used as a primary resource to fulfill requirements in mathematics, economics, family consumer science, business mathematics and personal finance. Educators who use this program see their students build confidence, security and hope. They share stories of students going to college debt-free, paying cash for their first car, or even helping their parents learn about the importance of an emergency fund.
