Indiana Health Information Exchange Engages More Hospitals, EHR Vendors for Enhanced Interoperability

Business Wire

INDIANAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- To ensure quality and consistent care for patients across the state, the Indiana Health Information Exchange and St. Vincent Medical Group (SVMG) have partnered to send patient tests, lab and other clinical results directly into their electronic health record (EHR) system, athenahealth. St. Vincent Medical Group is a member of Ascension, the nation’s largest not-for-profit and Catholic health system.

This new integration allows the more than 900 SVMG physicians to seamlessly receive patient information and results when patients seek care seek care at other facilities in the community. Each month, IHIE delivers 17 million results throughout Indiana and neighboring states.

“Making the physician’s job easier is the right thing to do for the patient,” said Dr. Richard Fogel, Chief Clinical Officer, St. Vincent. “This solution can help improve our efficiency by working within our existing system and enhancing the provider-patient relationship so that each interaction is as productive as possible.”

Over 36,000 providers receive results via IHIE’s DOCS4DOCS® Service, which is the de facto clinical results delivery system throughout Indiana. Launched over 11 years ago by IHIE, the D4D Service served to standardize the way patient information was presented and streamlined and how this information was received. This service has since become the gateway for IHIE to provide a broad range of services designed to support better patient care while working within a framework needed to fulfill evolving industry mandates.

“This integration between our services and our customers’ EHR systems is a real world example of how we can build a truly interoperable healthcare community,” said John P. Kansky, President and CEO of the Indiana Health Information Exchange. “ We look forward to working with more of our customers to find solutions to make it easier for them to do what they do best – care for patients.”

With the addition of these 900 providers, over 4,000 providers on 28 different EHR systems have an integrated delivery of clinical information.
