Aug. 12—Get Covered Illinois is moving to a state-based health insurance marketplace after the transition was approved by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Beginning Nov. 1, Illinois residents using the marketplace to find insurance coverage for 2026 will enroll through Get Covered Illinois instead of Healthcare.gov.
Residents who need help making their selection can get free enrollment assistance from certified brokers and navigators across the state.
The move to a state-based system will allow the state to better accommodate residents' needs, Gov. J.B. Pritzker said.
"Today marks a pivotal step toward bringing quality, affordable healthcare to all Illinoisans," Pritzker said. "Operating a state-based marketplace will allow our state more flexibility to provide health insurance coverage that is tailored to the needs of our residents."
A Customer Assistance Center will be launched in October to provide help with enrollment. The system will be live in time for open enrollment on Nov. 1. Enrollment will run through Jan. 15.
