HealthSmart Awarded Claims Administration Agreement by NYSUT Catastrophe Major Medical Trust

PR Web

IRVING, Texas (PRWEB) November 07, 2017

HealthSmart is pleased to announce an agreement to provide health claim services for the NYSUT Member Benefits Catastrophe Major Medical Insurance Trust (NYSUT CMMT). "I am delighted to welcome the NYSUT CMMT into the HealthSmart family of organizations," said Phil Christianson, HealthSmart's CEO. "With this new partnership, HealthSmart will be providing service to almost 70,000 NYSUT Members taking part in the NYSUT CMMT-sponsored Catastrophe Major Medical Insurance Plan."

NYSUT Member Benefits was established in 1983 for the purpose of endorsing and monitoring quality, competitive insurance plans and benefit programs for the NYSUT membership. In 2015, NYSUT Member Benefits established the NYSUT CMMT – with the Catastrophe Major Medical Plan being its sole purpose.

New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) is a labor organization comprised of more than 1,200 local unions that include classroom teachers, college/university faculty and professional staff, school bus drivers, custodians, secretaries, cafeteria workers, teacher assistants and aides as well as nurses and healthcare technicians. The contract with the NYSUT CMMT caps a strong third quarter for HealthSmart, which also welcomed another large group of 66,000 members, a combined gain of more than 140,000 new members.

With continual changes in healthcare, care management and legislative reform, HealthSmart is also changing. In addition to a talented new leadership team, there have been significant investments in product development, client services and call centers to support HealthSmart's strong commitment to its self-funded TPA clients. HealthSmart's new Prescription Benefit Manager (PBM) and specialty drug cost management services are helping to control costs for plan sponsors and their members.

"We conducted an extensive search for a claims administrator that would not only be cost-effective, but would also deliver the great service our members deserve," said Lynette Metz, Director of NYSUT Member Benefits. "We were impressed by HealthSmart's integrated technology and their record of providing high-level service in the industry."

"The entire HealthSmart team has worked diligently to deliver outstanding service and to solve the challenges our clients face," notes Christianson. "We strive to fulfill our brand promise: to lower the cost of healthcare and to serve our members with dignity and respect. We are grateful to our clients, partners and stakeholders for their support."
