Health Care for America Now Issues Statement on Supreme Court Refusal to Fast-Track Affordable Care Act

WASHINGTON, Jan. 22 -- Health Care for America Now issued the following statement on Jan. 21 by Executive Director Margarida Jorge in response to the Supreme Court's refusal to fast-track a challenge to the Affordable Care Act:
"Today, the Supreme Court gave President Trump and Republicans in Congress exactly what they wanted: a chance to continue to play politics with health care while millions of families remain in limbo, anxiously waiting to see if they will continue to have access to affordable care. With this delay, the future for people with pre-existing conditions and those who receive coverage from Medicaid expansion is completely up in the air. It's not fair to keep fueling uncertainty and chaos in patients' lives and the healthcare system so that politicians who have tried time and time again to take away our healthcare can skirt responsibility for their actions.
"President Trump and Republicans want to delay this case because they know taking away common sense protections and health care from millions is wildly unpopular and will cost them dearly at the ballot box this November. But the American people will not be fooled by these delay tactics and won't so easily forget which politicians tried to repeal the ACA and dismantle Medicaid while at the same time giving massive tax breaks to the health insurers and prescription drug corporations.
The Trump Administration and its allies in Congress have spent the last three years working to dismantle the ACA piece by piece through legislative and administrative action, and now they are working to end the law in the courts, including vital protections for people living with pre-existing conditions. Just as they did in 2017 when Congress tried to repeal the ACA, people across the country will fight back against this effort to take health care away from millions and put insurance companies back in control of our health."

Health Care for America Now (HCAN) is the national grassroots coalition that ran a $60 million five-and-a-half year campaign from 2008-2013 to pass, protect, and promote the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and protect Medicare and Medicaid. HCAN has come back together to fight the Republicans' all-out effort to take away America's health care and put people at the mercy of the health insurance companies again.
