Health Care For All Applauds Gov. Healey for Signing ConnectorCare Pilot Expansion Into Law

BOSTON, Massachusetts, Aug. 10 -- Health Care For All issued the following statement on Aug. 9, 2023:

Governor Healey on Wednesday expanded the state's subsidized health insurance program known as ConnectorCare to an estimated 50,000 to 70,000 Massachusetts residents. The two-year pilot program was included by the Legislature in the FY2024 budget, and will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2024.

Amy Rosenthal, the Executive Director of Health Care For All, issued the following statement:

"Every day, our HelpLine receives calls from people who are struggling to afford health insurance. This pilot program will give tens of thousands of hard-working individuals and families in the Commonwealth relief through more affordable health coverage with lower premiums, co-pays and deductibles. With 41% of residents unable to afford health care, a figure that is even higher for Black and Latino residents, this program for those making up to 500% of the federal poverty level -- $74,000 a year for an individual -- will help to address the deep inequities in our health care system.

"This expansion comes at a critical time when 2.4 million MassHealth members are going through the redetermination process, and many will find they make too much to stay on MassHealth. The ConnectorCare expansion can help ease that transition for individuals and families and ensure they continue to get the care they need. We thank the Healey administration and Legislature for their leadership and commitment to ensuring all residents have access to equitable, affordable and accessible coverage and care."
