Hartford woman gets 5 years of probation for Medicaid fraud, officials say [Journal Inquirer, Manchester, Conn.]

Feb. 16—A Hartford woman who used another person's identity and Medicaid information to pay for medical appointments and medication was sentenced to probation Wednesday, according to the state Division of Criminal Justice.
Ebony Mayo, 42, appeared in Superior Court in Hartford, where Judge Courtney M. Chaplin sentenced her to five years of probation If she violates the conditions of her probation — which include paying $15,778 in restitution — Mayo could be sentenced to serve three years in prison, officials said.
According to justice division, an investigation revealed that Mayo used the Medicaid number and personal identification number of another person to acquire medical treatment and services, even as she had her own insurance. The division said Mayo engaged in that behavior between March and October 2021 to avoid co-payments from her own insurance.
During that time Mayo used 93 claims for service totaling $15,778, the agency said.
Mayo pleaded guilty to first-degree larceny by defrauding a public community, health insurance fraud, and first-degree identity theft.
