Former Gamecocks quarterback Connor Shaw joins Columbia insurance firm
Post & Courier (Charleston, SC)
COLUMBIA - Former Gamecocks quarterback Connor Shaw has a new team.
Shaw has joined the Columbia office of Hub International Limited, an insurance brokerage, with the titles of assistant vice president and insurance adviser, according to a March 22 news release from the company.
Shaw previously had worked for another insurance company, Colonial Life, and most recently as director of player development for the University of South Carolina, working with the new generation of Gamecock football players. Shaw left that position in February.
"If being a quarterback has taught me anything, it is the importance of people being there to help and protect you when you need it the most," Shaw said.
HUB's Columbia office features another name that is familiar to Gamecock fans: its CEO is Tommy Suggs, the former Gamecock football star and longtime announcer.
Suggs praised Shaw's focus and insurance industry experience.
"Connor has developed an exceptional work ethic from his time in the NFL and as a student athlete at the University of South Carolina," Suggs said.
Playing from 2010 to 2013, Shaw was the winningest quarterback in USC history. He passed for 56 touchdowns as a Gamecock and rushed for 17.
