Florida radio stations will run Trump speeches on tape loop through 2020 election
New York Daily News, The (NY)
May 15-- May 15--Radio stations in Florida plan to run twice-an-hour snippets of what they calls President Trump's "inspirational" speech pledging to rebuild the region slammed by Hurricane Michael.
"We ran it by a bunch of listeners and people in the area, and nobody's upset about it. It's Republican territory," owner Samuel Rogatinsky told the Orlando Sentinel. "Nobody's offended by it. It's not an issue."
That's a debatable claim, even the #MAGA-friendly region known as the Redneck Riviera for its conservative leanings.
And flooding the airwaves with presidential propaganda around the clock could possibly be less than legal. Rogatinsky conceded he would have to give equal time to Trump rivals if asked.
Trump has vowed to pump billions in aid to the region but so far assistance has been slow. In an unseemly show of political gamesmanship, the White House has blocked a $19 billion disaster aid package because he says it is too generous to Puerto Rico, which was devastated by Hurricane Maria.
Rogatinsky, who bought the trio of small stations after they were knocked off the air for months by the storm, did not mention the funding stand-off while singing the president's praises.
"We just want to have inspirational type things because the community is so down," he said. "They want to hear what he has to say."
