Fire displaces Venango area family

Feb. 18--CUSSEWAGO TOWNSHIP -- A faulty wood-burning stove caused a mid-afternoon fire that displaced a Venango area family.

The fire at the David A Banks home at 19658 Center Road in Cussewago Township was discovered by the family around 3 p.m., Chief Chris French of Cambridge Springs Volunteer Fire Department, said. The family was outside at the time and discovered the blaze, he said.

The home is located about three miles northwest of the borough of Venango.

A wood-burning stove on the home's first floor malfunctioned and caused the fire to spread up the wall to the second floor, French said. There were no injuries, but fire did destroy one wall of the home, he said.

The family has insurance and the home probably could be repaired, he said.

The American Red Cross has been called in to assist the family.

Cambridge Springs was assisted at the scene by the Venango, Edinboro and Saegertown volunteer fire departments. The last fire units returned to quarters at 6:30 p.m.
