Dec. 15--A Monday fire burned much of a Waynesville home located off Lickstone Road.
Waynesville Fire Chief Joey Webb said the initial dispatch came in at 11:56 a.m., and thanks to a quick response and a conveniently close fire hydrant, the blaze was under control at 12:12 p.m. Webb added that his department received mutual aid from Saunook, Center Pigeon and Maggie Valley Fire departments.
"It went well, and our automatic aid came in and provided that additional manpower," Webb said.
Webb said that while it seems the fire originated in the front part of the home, it is still under investigation. While no one was injured, the pets found safety and the residents are able to receive help and shelter from family, Webb lamented the family's loss so close to the holidays.
"It's Christmas, and it seems like every year you get one of these," he said. "They had insurance, but still with COVID and everything else going on, it's bad."
