ATLANTA — A Fayetteville woman is facing insurance fraud charges after reportedly filing a false claim following an auto accident, Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King said Wednesday.
Warrants were taken out against Tuesday against Stacy Hughlett, 39, for one count of insurance fraud and three counts of first degree forgery, according to King's office.
King said Hughlett was involved in a collision in July 2021 when she was struck by another vehicle. She then filed a claim through Progressive Insurance. However, King said the documents she submitted were suspected to be falsified.
"After reviewing Ms. Hughlett's claim, our criminal investigators determined that her documentation was fraudulent and she did not receive the medical treatment she claimed," King said. "This type of fraud raises insurance costs for all Georgians, and I am proud of the work of our investigators to close this case."
