WASHINGTON, Aug. 23 -- LIBRE Initiative issued the following news release:
According to press reports, Members of Congress are expressing serious concern that the Department of Health and Human Services is reducing spending on advertising and outreach intended to make Hispanics more aware of options under the Affordable Care Act (ACA, or Obamacare). They are pressing the White House to ramp up such spending in order to help more Latinos buy plans made available under the law.
Daniel Garza, President of The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:
"Despite the best efforts of the Obama administration and supporters in Congress and the states, enrollment under Obamacare lagged far behind projections year after year, after year. The Congressional Budget Office projected 23 million enrollees in 2017, but the current number is barely 10 million - not even half of what was expected when the law passed.
Rather than focus on spending more taxpayer money to try to prod Hispanics into funding a system that clearly isn't offering attractive options, lawmakers should work on fixing that system. Americans want better health care options. If those options are available at competitive rates, people will pay for plans that protect their health and that of their families. Yet too many policymakers in Washington are more focused on preserving a bad system than making sure their constituents' priorities are being addressed."
