HAMILTON, Bermuda (AP) _ Everest Re Group Ltd. (RE) on Wednesday reported first-quarter earnings of $210.3 million.
The Hamilton, Bermuda-based company said it had profit of $5.11 per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to $5.34 per share.
The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $5.29 per share.
The reinsurance company posted revenue of $1.75 billion in the period. Its adjusted revenue was $1.77 billion.
Everest Re shares have increased nearly 9 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $240.22, a drop of nearly 5 percent in the last 12 months.
